This article is intended to help you configure and set up Pushpay and Think Ministry (Ministry Platform) to allow transaction information to be passed directly from Pushpay into Think Ministry.
What is it?
Churches who are using Think Ministry can have Pushpay integrate with it. When donations are made through Pushpay to your organization, Pushpay will automatically send the corresponding transaction data from Pushpay into Think Ministry.
How does it work?
Pushpay works in real time behind the scenes to make the integration experience seamless. Once enabled, Pushpay handles every donation and automatically creates the necessary contribution records within your Think Ministry account. Note: All transactions will be passed through as "Donations."
If Pushpay can’t find a donor match based on name and email address, we will also check for a previous Payment sent by that donor. If the previous payment has been assigned to a donor in Think Ministry, Pushpay will match the new payment to that donor as well. If no match can be found, the payment will be matched to the "***Default Contact." Think Ministry has a donor-assignment tool that makes it easy for you to match a payment to the correct record.
Step 1: Think Ministry
In order to set up the integration between Pushpay and Think Ministry you must obtain three pieces of information directly from Think Ministry. You can contact their support team directly to notify them that you are wanting to set up the integration for Pushpay and that you need the following details:
- Think Ministry Instance URL
- Client ID
- Client Secret
Step 2: in Pushpay
- Log into your Pushpay account at pushpay.com/login?view=1
- Click Settings.
- Click Integrations.
- Click Connect integration beneath the Think Ministry header.
- Enter your ThinkMinistry Instance URL, ClientId, and Client secret.
- Click Connect.
- Select your Fallback fund for each active listing. Note: If you have one or more listings used for processing non tax-deductible payments, we recommend deactivating that listing for this integration (shown below), as all transactions will be passed through as "Donations."
- Click Setup.
- Select matching funds for your existing Pushpay funds.
- Click Import.
- Click Enable integration to enable one-way integration.
When a transaction is successful, we pass over the details to Think Ministry, who matches donors using name, email, and phone number. If no match is found we then check for a previous transaction sent by that Pushpayer. If that transaction has been assigned to a donor in Think Ministry we'll match this new transaction to that donor record too. If we also fail to find a match by looking at a prior transaction, the donation will be matched up to "***Default, Contact."
Think Ministry has a donor-assignment tool that makes it easy to match it to the correct record. You can find this by going to Tools > Assign Donor.
If there is no match, you can create the donor right there by pressing "Create Donor."
If there is a match, simply click "Assign" next to the correct record.
